Equestrian Sports: The Chilean “Business Team” at the Pan American Games

Jorge Matte Capdevila, director of Empresas CMPC and son of Eliodoro Matte; and Alexandr Imschenetzky, from the family that owns Marina del Sol, compete in equestrian jumping for Chile. Virginia Yarur, daughter of businessman Juan Carlos Yarur, competes in dressage.

Equestrian sports are the discipline that brings together the most Chileans with business ties. The equestrian sports at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 feature several Chilean representatives whose families have interests in various companies, some of whom have been involved in equestrian sports for years.

The most prominent of them all is Jorge Matte Capdevila (41 years old), director of Empresas CMPC, the forestry holding that forms the basis of the family’s fortune, and the second of the three children of Eliodoro Matte Larraín, who is now retired from the family business. Matte Capdevila competes in equestrian jumping, both as part of a team and individually. In the same category and teaming up with Matte is the young Alexandr Imschenetzky Kiseleva (27 years old), whose family is a shareholder of the Marina del Sol casino chain. Imschenetzky is the brother of Nicolás Immchenetzky Ebensperger (48), president of Marina del Sol and an industrial civil engineer who also frequently competes in equestrian jumping.

Jorge Matte is a commercial engineer from the University of Los Andes and in 2024 marks five years as a director of Empresas CMPC, where he works alongside his cousins Bernardo Larraín Matte, son of Patricia Matte, and Bernardo Matte Izquierdo, son of Bernardo Matte Larraín.
